Motorcycle Accidents - Ohio and Pennsylvania

Easy rider...maybe motorcycle riding has gained in popularity because the motorcycle is a more thrifty way to get around or maybe it's because men facing a midlife crisis want to embrace what they missed in their younger years. Either way, motorcycle riding has become more popular especially with older breadwinners.

Have you or a loved one suffered a wrongful death or catastrophic injury as the result of being a motorcyclist or avoiding a motorcyclist?

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, there were 7.1 million motorcycles in action during 2007. Unfortunately, there has also been a jump in fatal motorcycle accidents for motorcyclists 40 years and older. For instance, in the 50-59 years of age bracket, 93 died; in the 60-69 years old, 352 died; and 89 died in the 70-plus year old bracket. Motorcycle accidents account for 13% of all motor vehicle fatalities.

While other motor vehicle crashes are on the slight decline, motorcycle fatalities continue to rise. From 2006 to 2007, they increased by 6.6%.

Motorcyclists need to be agile and possess mental and physical skills that are not required to drive a car. Motorcyclists are more at risk for inclement weather, hazardous road conditions, and the mistakes of other drivers.

While drinking a beer or two after work might not endanger the driver of a passenger vehicle, it can greatly impair a motorcyclist's ability to evaluate hazards that might lead to trouble. Even one beer can impair your vision, your decision-making ability, and definitely dull your coordination-reaction time. 25 percent of all fatal alcohol-related motorcycle crashes involve motorcyclists running off the road, overturning, or falling from their motorcycles.
