Fires, Unsafe Electric Blankets Heating Pads, Flammable Beds, Natural Gas Explosions

Fire! Fire can be caused by an act of nature or people or product negligence. Examples of unsafe produces include defective electric blankets, defective heating pads, faulty electrical wiring, heating systems gone awry or improperly installed, furniture and clothing made with flammable materials, faulty smoke detectors, and natural gas explosions.

The most common fire in a house is caused by defective electric blankets and heating pads. Electric blankets sometimes cover the bed like a normal blanket and come in all bed sizes and colors. The blanket is usually placed above the top bed sheet. Another variation of the electric blanket is the electric mattress pad, which is placed below the bottom bed sheet.

Electric blankets usually have a control unit which adjusts the amount of heat the blanket produces. The problem with electric blankets are when the electric blanket is folded; the heating element can overheat, causing the blanket to melt which further puts you at risk of thermal burns and fires. While older blankets are more at risk, newer electric blanket using nylon threads instead of wires have still experienced electric blanket recalls.

Heating pads are flexible fabric-covered pads containing electrical heating elements with a removable fabric cover. Heating pads use household current and are used to apply heat to the body to treat sore muscles. Some heating pads may contain a loose connection which may cause a short circuit. Short circuits pose a risk of burn injuries or fire as well as damage to the heating pad itself or to materials like flammable bedding and furniture.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has recalled thousands of heating blankets and heating pads.

Has your family suffered a fire caused by a defective electric blanket or heating pad? You could be eligible for a product negligence lawsuit. Find out how you can get justice for an unsafe product.

House fires, flammable furniture and bedding

Great balls of fire - that would be your bed, your children's beds, your couch, your favorite easy chair and the ottoman. Unfortunately, your home furnishings are highly flammable because they are made of polyurethane foam stuffing or foam rubber which burns instantly at high temperatures emitting toxic smoke. If furniture accidentally catches on fire from a cigarette or candle, your home sweet home turns into an inferno faster than if you ignited it with lighter fluid.

According to the National Institute of Standards and Technology, polyurethane foam in furniture is responsible for 30 percent of U.S. deaths from fires each year. Yet the furniture industry has failed to regulate itself, and in fact, fights attempts to require flame-retardant treatments or other changes that would make furniture safer.

When there is a natural gas explosion, it is almost always news making, devastating, terrifying, and deadly. Lives are lost; victims sustain great physical, emotional, andfinancial pain and suffering. Life may never be the same for the survivors. Do you need a wrongful death lawyer?
